2007 Conference, York: Venue
Venues
The Symposium will take place in the Tempest Anderson Hall of the Yorkshire Museum, which is adjacent to the Department of Archaeology at King's Manor, in the centre of York (not on the main university site). Facilities within King's Manor are kindly being provided free of charge by the University of York and the Department of Archaeology. Posters, practicals and microscopes based at King's Manor, and the main lecture programme at the Museum. King's Manor is in Exhibition Square, next to the City Art Gallery and opposite the Theatre Royal, a few minutes walk from the centre of York. It houses the Department of Archaeology (incorporating the Institute of Advanced Architectural Studies), the Centre for Eighteenth Century Studies and the Centre for Medieval Studies. It provides a venue for meetings and conferences and many of the classes run by the Centre for Continuing Education.
Maps and directions
Buses 1, 2 and 3 go from the Railway Station to Exhibition Square. Alternately, it takes about 10 minutes to walk.
Accommodation
Accommodation is not provided by the Symposium. Instead, delegates are encouraged to contact the York Tourist Office who have a dedicated web site for conferences in the city, and have kindly provided a price banded booking form for hotels and bed and breakfast establishments in the vicinity of the King's Manor site. We strongly advise you to book well in advance as York is relatively small and a popular destination for race-goers and tourists.
Receptions and Conference Dinner.
There will be 2 receptions at King's Manor for delegates; one on Thursday evening to welcome everyone, and another on Saturday. The Saturday reception will be followed by a dinner, also at King's Manor. The receptions are open to all delegates. The dinner is for those delegates who have paid (£25.00) in advance.
Attendance, Presentation Format and Dinner
For health and safety reasons, we need to be able to provide an accurate assessment of the number of people attending from the 6th to the 9th of September.
